Previous Trips

These are trips that we have been on in the past and their usual order:

January-February:

  • JVC Klondike Derby – Klondike Derby at Juniata Valley Council were scouts pull sleds all day to earn points in a competition.
  • Snow Tubing – A day trip where scouts can go snow tubing.
  • Pioneering/Wilderness Survival/E-Prep – Scouts have the opportunity to earn these merit badges.

March-May:

  • Scout Skills Weekend – “Local” campout for new scouts bridging into the troop. Scouts learn the patrol method, complete requirements for Scout Rank, and start requirements for Tenderfoot rank.
  • Canoe Trip – Scouts have the opportunity to use skills learned during summer camp and from the Canoeing merit badge on the many mid-Atlantic water trails. Scouts must have passed the BSA Swim test within the last year.
  • Backpacking Trip – Scouts have the opportunity to learn backpacking essentials and work on the backpacking and camping merit badge. Typical trips are on the Appalachian trail, and extended approximately 10-20 miles.
  • High ropes / Zip Lining – Day trip for scouts to have some fun on a local course.

June-August:

  • Summer camp – Week long at either Camp Rodney or Camp Henson. New scouts joining the troop enter the “Brownsea” program learning essential scout skills. 2nd year and up scouts select a variety of merit badges in aquatic sports, shooting sports, Eagle required, and crafts.
  • Bike trip – Scouts can bike on the C & O canal tow path. Most of the time 50 miles.
  • High adventure trips:
    • Summit
    • Sea-Base
    • Northern Tier
    • Philmont

September-December:

  • Merit Badge Mania – A weekend for earning merit badges.
  • Spook-o-Ree
  • Troop Fall Campout
  • Backpacking Trip
  • Battleship NJ – Scouts can see the Iowa Class Battleship New Jersey.
  • Shooting Sports Weekend / Zombie Survival – Scouts can take the opportunity to shoot 22s, shotguns, throw Tomahawks, and build fires.
